Structure of the Equivalence Examination
There are two part in the examination
Part 1: The MCQ examination will feature 100 questions, and candidates will be given 180 minutes to complete the examination with an additional 15 minutes of reading time beforehand.
Part 2: The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is a performance-based test that allows for the standardised assessment of clinical and communication skills. There will be 12 stations in total that each candidate will be required to take. This will include both interactive stations, where the candidate will interact with a standardised patient and be assessed by examiners using standardised rating instruments, and tackle written stations as well.
The overall pass mark for the OSCE will be determined by averaging the scores across all 12 stations, so candidates don’t need to pass each one individually. For the written stations, a pass mark of 50% is required, while the interactive stations will have their pass mark set through statistical methods approved by external examiners. Importantly, candidates must independently pass both Part 1 and Part 2 of the equivalence examination to succeed.
